Jammu, June 9: Jammu, June 8: Despite claiming that normalcy has returned to Kashmir, J&K government on Friday announced the summer break for schools in Kashmir from July 2 so that Burhan Wani's 2n death anniversary passes off peacefully.
Top sources within the state's education department revealed that it has happened for the first time that the government has announced summer vacations one month in advance. "It is 8 June today and there was no reason why the government announced the summer break today which commences from July 2," said an official.
He added that the main reason are not the soaring temperatures but the separatists who are waiting in wings to issue a protest calendar on the second death anniversary of Burhan Wani who was killed by the army in an encounter in south Kashmir on July 8, 2016.
The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday decided to close all educational institutions in Kashmir region and Jammu's winter zone on account of summer vacations from July 2 to July 14.
The Minister for Education Chowdary Zulifkar Ali said that the government has decided to go for summer break due to rising temperatures.
"All educational institutions in both Winter and Summer Zones will remain closed from July to July 14 next month," the Minister said.
It was informed further that the main reason behind announcing the summer break from July 2 to July 14 is that the government apprehends large-scale protest calls by the separatists that would cause a stir on the streets. "What is meanwhile ironical is that the government here is being run on the diktats of the separatists who enjoy impunity and there is no remorse about why we are jeopardizing the career of thousands of our students. If the government is confident that there would no protests and that the normalcy has returned to the Kashmir then why did it announce the summer break one month before," wrote a netizen on social media here.
He added that it is not in actual a summer break but a Burhan Break being witnessed in the schools and colleges.
Pertinently, according to government data, 4,799 rock-throwing incidents have been reported in Kashmir over the last three years. |
