| BJP splinter group to raise Sarpanchs’ killings issue in Assembly | | | Early TImes REport
JAMMU, Sept 28: The suspended Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs have announced to raise various issues concerning general public viz a viz the killings of Sarpanchs in Kashmir valley during the forthcoming Assembly session at Srinagar. A joint press conference was addressed by the splinter group of BJP here today wherein Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta (MLA Jammu West) Jagdish Sapolia (MLA Basohli), Bharat Bhushan (MLA Raipur-Domana), Master Lal Chand (MLA Bani), Durga Dass (MLA Hira Nagar), Baldev Raj (M.L.A Reasi), Gharu Ram (MLA RS Pura) vowed to highlight public grievances strongly. Addressing media persons, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta said, "One of the important issues we are going to raise in Assembly is the killing of Panchs and Sarpanchs." "We strongly condemn such killings which force their resignations. It is a serious threat to the functioning of the democracy but for dubious policies of the government, especially the lowering of the guards even when there was no let up in the inimicaldesigns in perpetrating cross border terror. People voted in the large numbers to have elected Panchayats despite boycott calls by the separatists and enemy agents. But it was intriguing that these grass root level democratic bodies were not empowered even after expiry of about 18 months. Now the elected representatives of these basic democracies are being forced to resign under the threat of gun, which is very serious matter as it is directly linked with the survival of very democracy," he added. Prof Gupta said that the forces had toiled hard to get restored the semblance of peace and normalcy but it was strange that the Government leaders under various pulls and pressures as also their mindset , acted in haste to withdrawing of the forces even from the troubled areas and there was chorus for revoking of the AFSPA. The issue of discrimination with Jammu and Ladakh region with regard to the Developmental activities and quota of posts in PSC and other subordinate services would be raised vigorously, Prof Gupta said. The burning issue of growing inflation due to partial removal of subsidy on cooking gas and increase in price of diesel would also be raised in the House, he added. |
