| Cong defensive once again….? PYC 'protest line' not appreciated by parent body , asks it to go slow…! | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 28: Even as the face off between ruling allies NC and Congress has reached crescendo over the issue of empowerment to Panchayats with statements coming at the highest level in both the parties, the sudden 'appearance' in the scene by Pradesh Youth Congress activists has not augured well with the political momentum. Though the strong protest demonstration by PYC gave impetus to the cause Congress is voicing loudly, but the way and strategy adopted by its leadership to lodge protest against the Government has not been appreciated by the parent body. Sources said leadership both at the local level and in New Delhi too has not quite appreciated the forceful 'mode' of protest by the PYC leaders and activists in the winter capital today. While demonstrating against the Government even though angry protestors faced lathi charge at the hands of Police, the leadership in the parent body has chosen not to give much hype to it. No matter there were some senior leaders from IYC including incharge J&K affairs with the protestors led by the president Shah Nawaz Choudhary and other senior functionaries, the way they tried to block the Tawi bridge and go all offensive against the government with anti Government sloganeering spree has not been taken in positive stride. "Congress is certainly raking up the issue and it wants action from the Government so far as 73rd Constitutional amendment is concerned……PYC genuinely so has also been persuading the issue for some time but it was a direct confrontationist approach they chose to adopt today…….the way protestors took the Government head on and raised slogans is a strategy expected from any opposition party, not the alliance partner….", said a senior leader of the party. The party leadership wants them to raise this issue and keep it alive till the demands are given practical shape, he said. However, by blocking the road and going all over the board, facing even lathicharge, PYC has exhausted all options of lodging protest in just one day, the leader added, explaining the reasons why parent body has not lauded the move. Sources further said that while PYC protests and police action has deliberately not been given much hype by the leadership, parent body IYC in New Delhi has conveyed to its J&K unit to go slow over the issue henceforth instead of taking the Government head on. It is pertinent to mention that neither any leader nor any Minister, not even JKPCC president came out with any condemnation statement over the harsh action meted out to PYC protestors today. |
