| Shall Omar over write Sinha, Azad's script or choose to duck again ? | | JU Council | | Abodh Sharma
Jammu, Oct 14: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah shall be in a catch 22 situation on Thursday, the 18th of October when he attends the meeting of the Jammu University Council as one of the agenda items before the council shall be to take suitable action in the irregularities pointed out by the Chief Secretary headed probe committee. Many in the University believe that Omar who skipped last two consecutive meetings of the JU Council may choose to duck another one as it would be difficult for him to over write the decisions taken during the tenures of former Vice Chancellors which had the approval of the pens of former Governor Lt. Gen. S K Sinha as the Chancellor and former Pro Vice Chancellors Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Ghulam Nabi Azad. The Council that meets on Thursday under the Chairmanship of the Chancellor N N Vohra is scheduled to deliberate on appropriate action over decisions which were found incoherent to the norms by the probe committee. The major decisions include out of turn promotions to Neeraj Sharma, then Principal private Secretary to the Vice Chancellor, appointment and elevation of Director Internal Quality assurance Cell and Prof. Deepankar Sen Gupta, charges of financial bungling against former Registrar PS Pathania, Charges of ill administration and misappropriation in civil works during the tenure of Varun Sahni, minor Charges against former Dean Academic Affairs BPS Sehgal etc. Meanwhile, apprehensions of bias are being cast on the committee constituted by the Vice Chancellor MP Singh Ishar under Prof. Rekha Choudhary to recommend action against the irregularities pointed out by the probe committee as the report of this committee may be presented before the Council. "Rekha Choudhary has been known for her distinct anti Amitabh Mattoo posture even when the latter was in chair" said a senior officer of the university. "She faced charges of backing anti national elements and of plagiarism during Mattoo's tenure and there is every chance that she would try to settle scores with the former Vice Chancellor" he added. It would be difficult for the Council comprising besides Chancellor and Pro Chancellor of Minister for Higher Education, Vice Chancellors of Kashmir and Jammu universities, Financial Commissioner, Commissioner secretary Higher Education and nominated members to cast aspersions on the decisions taken by the previous Council- and if it does that, it shall set a precedent of sorts. |
