| DM imposes restrictions around examination centres | | Curbing copying in Kishtwar | | Asif Iqbal Naik Kishtwar October 23:- The District Administration has imposed restrictions under Section 144 CrPC around examination centres in Kishtwar to curb the menace of copying as Chief Education Officer, Lok Nath Butt vide his order No: CEO/K/12/8837-8839 appointed Dy CEO as Chief Inspector of Examination centres falling in Marwah, Dachhan and Warwan areas of the district. The examinations are scheduled to be held from 25th of October 2012 at 36 examination centres spread over 7 education zones across the district. Overall 3138 students from 93 High/Higher Secondary schools including some recognized private schools will appear in the said examination. The CEO Kishtwar said that conducting free and fair examination requires joint efforts of supervisory staff as well as from the school authorities manning the examination centre. He said in order to check the menace of mass copying; education department has already sought help from police and district administration. He said that the Deputy Commissioner has imposed restrictions around examination centres. “The police have promised support. With the help from District administration, police and the parents we will succeed in checking the menace”, he said. He said once the process starts, special teams from education department as well as concerned ZEO’s from all 7 education zones of the district will inspect the examination centres to keep an eye on copying. “Beside ZEO’s, the concerned principals will remain vigilant as well”, he added. Seeking cooperation from the parents, he said fair examinations will help students reach zenith. Meanwhile, the stationery has been handed over to the concerned superintendents of 37 identified examination centres. Pertinent to mention only eight centres are connected by means of roads. The District Magistrate, Saleem Mohammad Chowdhary said that all the officials have been directed to ensure fair examinations at all the centres. Kishtwar has remained in news for mass copying in the past. The Board of School Education has won severe criticism for an alleged nexus with some officials of the education department to promote copying. According to reports, money to the tune of Rs 6000-8000 has been demanded from matriculation students for high percentage of marks. Similarly, reports said Rs 10000-12000 for science students of 12th class has been demanded for facilitating copying. Reports said the teacher appointed to conduct practical examination charged Rs 300 to 500 from each student for enhancing the practical marks since these marks also play an important role in total percentage of aggregated marks. There have been instances when teachers from arts stream have been entrusted with the job of conducting the practical examinations of the science students. |
