| Govt may give additional cylinders on its own | | | Early Times Report Jammu , Oct 23 The State government is contemplating on giving additional three subsidised LPG cylinders to consumers on its own after getting rebuttal from the Centre. This would cost the State government an additional Rs 500 crores. “The government is seriously considering it. As unrest on this account across the State, especially in the Kashmir, can pose serious threat to peace, which the government can’t afford,” said a cabinet minister. The state government was pinning its hope on Prime Minister to give his word on giving additional cylinder which he politely refused to commit. “The PM categorically told Dy CM and other minister that Centre can’t make exception to J&K in this regard as this decision has been taken for the country as a whole and if such demand is accepted from any state that it will open Pandora box. And if State government is keen on this regard then it should do it on its own as other state have done,” said the Cabinet minister. The rebuttal from the Prime Minister came after petroleum minister also told consumer affairs minister Qamar Ali Akhoon that no exception can be made in this regard and had told him that only PM can make decision in this affect. Chief minister facing the heat on the roads has stated that J&K can’t be equated with Delhi as temperature and geography here is different from other parts of the country. The finance had earlier making a statement in the Assembly had said that government can’t given additional subsidised cylinders as it will cost the State Rs 500 crores. But that even when PM had also categorically rejected this demand the government is contemplating to give on its own. The state government is now thinking of this adjusting this additional burden by projecting it in the next state plan. Cong is now asking Centre to accept this demand of the State government. |
