| S. Delhi Mayor honoured, but no laurels to son of soil who too made party proud….. | | | Early Times Report
Jammu: State unit of BJP leadership may take pride in having convened a function to felicitate South Delhi Mayor Savita Gupta on Saturday along with J&K ‘Prabhari’ Prof Jagdish Mukhi, perhaps for the first time ever since he was given this charge two years. But in the ‘show’ it left certain big ‘holes’ and committed lapses which made it look more like politically motivated function. While the leadership honoured Savita Gupta, daughter of the soil, it also chose to ignore Kavinder Gupta who has the distinction of being only person in the world to have been elected Mayor of any city for three consecutive terms. This lapse left workers and cadres disappointed with the entire ‘show’.
Sources said while the function was sought to have been presented as a big show with enthusiastic presence of the workers and functionaries of the party, it did not generate much interest or zeal which was reflected by the thin attendance of party people . Though Kavinder Gupta , a senior leader of the party was invited but his presence remained as insignificant as any other functionary. Since it was a function that was associated with someone from the party holding the post of the Mayor in South Delhi, it was expected of BJP state leadership to have given some place of prominence, if not a gesture of honour to Kavinder Gupta as well. Sources said in absence of a sizable number of party leaders and activists it looked more like a family function sponsored by BJP state unit.
This is the murmur among the functionaries and activists of the party after it was seen Kavinder having been completely ignored in the function. What has made local cadres and activists disappointed is the fact not even once the leadership made mention of the fact that kavinder Gupta made party proud by winning and retaining Mayor post for three consecutive terms, a rare feat and a record for which he has been honoured on foreigh lands. And Ironically, when it came to felicitating Savita Gupta, Mayor of South Delhi, the leadership ignored the very own son of the soil who served people of Jammu with utmost satisfaction . Sources within the party said there was a yearning among the workers and some functionaries that Kavinder should have been given place on the dais, or at the most a brief mention should have been made about him and his feat for the same post, the felicitation function having been for someone holding the similar assignment in capacity of party leader.
Questions are also being raised as to why and how after around two years, it dawned upon the state leadership of BJP to felicitate Prof Jadish Mukhi, and why it was not done at the time when he was made prabhari by the central leadership. At a time when the state unit is heading for polls for a president for new term, the function is being seen as a politically motivated one only to keep some leaders of prominence in good humour. |
