Kathua Police solve blind murder in three days

An old lady namely Soma Devi W/O Late Shri Dhruv Singh was found murdered at her house in Ward No. 10 Kathua on the morning of 24/10/2012. The cause of the murder was suspected to be injury inflicted with a blunt object. The jewellery worn by the deceased, namely a pair of ear rings and two rings were found to be missing. Further an unsuccessful attempt had been made to break the lock of one of the rooms in the deceased's house. On receiving the information, Police Station Kathua took cognizance of the matter and a case FIR No. 431/2012 was registered u/ss 302, 392, 460 RPC.
During investigations, it came to the knowledge of the police that one Guddi W/O Charan Singh R/O Maroli Kathua along with her son had stayed at the house of one of her relatives which is situated very close to the house of the deceased. The house of the deceased is accessible from this house via the terrace.
Acting on the tip off police picked up Guddi on the morning of 28/10/2012 and put her through sustained questioning during which she confessed to having murdered the deceased. The missing jewellery of the deceased was recovered at the instance of Guddi from a jeweler in Govindsar Kathua. The jewellery was identified as that of the deceased by the latter's daughter. The jeweler confirmed that the jewellery in question had been given to him by Guddi in exchange for new jewellery she needed for her daughter's wedding.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that desperate need for money in order to buy jewellery for her daughter's wedding motivated Guddi to commit the heinous crime. In fact the two day delay in arresting Guddi was account of the impending marriage of her daughter which was slated for 27/10/2012. The case has been successfully cracked by the efforts of Inspector Chanchal Singh, SHO Kathua under the supervision of Daljeet Singh, DSP HQ Kathua.
