Jammu, Nov 11: All Jammu Hotels & Lodges Association has made a strong pitch for developing Jammu city and its surroundings as an independent tourists destination at the earliest, to offset the loss of business and importance of the winter capital city of the state, with train reaching Katra early next year. The association has been demanding concrete steps to undertake projects in Jammu city, which can be source of attraction for the pilgrims and the tourists to stay put in Jammu city for few days. These include lake in river Tawi, Mubarak Mandi Heritage complex, ropeway from Mubarak Mandi to Mumaya hill top, expansion of wild life sanctuary Manda, environment park on Jammu by-pass road, promotion of border tourism at Suchet Garh linking Chamlayal, modernisation and up-gradation of Jammu bus stand, Jammu railway station as well as Jammu air port. The association has also demanded creating of tourists circuits, with their proper development and infrastructure. These proposed circuits are Jammu, Katra, Reasi fort, Shiv Khori, Akhnoor fort, Jio pota, Ambaran, Jhiri and back Jammu. The second circuits include Jammu, Mansar, Sruinsar. Uttarvahni, Parmandal and Birpur. Speaking at a Press meet here today Inderjeet Khajuria the president of the association said that he would soon call a meeting of representatives of various trade and travel organisations, connected with tourism and other stake holders in the same to form a united front and chalk out a line of action to see that Jammu- Sialkot road is opened soon and the Suchet Garh border post becomes an attractive tourist destination. AJHLA has also demanded that the road between Jammu and Suchet Garh be widened to four lanes and the entire border belt in Jammu from Kathua up to Akhnoor should be developed for tourism purpose.
