| NC rewards Taj by withdrawing from house panel-Murtaza Khan | | 'Taj helped NC during Haji Yusuf killing, JKCA scam' | | Bashir Assad JAMMU, Nov 12: By withdrawing its two members from the house panel constituted on October 15 by the chairman Legislative Council to probe the allegations of forest land grabbing leveled against PHE Minister Taj Mohi-ud-din, National Conference has actually rewarded the Minister for what he did during Haji Yousuf custodial killing and JKCA scam involving Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his father Dr. Farooq Abdullah respectively. This was stated by senior PDP leader and MLC Murtaza Khan during a press conference here today soon after the chairman Legislative Council, Amrit Malhotra dissolved the panel. Murtaza Khan who was heading the 5 member house panel constituted to look into the allegations of forest land grabbing against Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Taj Mohi-ud-din said that the committee was legally and constitutionally valid and blamed National conference for shielding the corrupt practices of the Minister simply because the Minister had helped them a lot during severe crises like the one which emerged after the custodial killing of NC activist Haji Yusuf at Chief Minister's residence and the JKCA scam involving Dr, Farooq Abdullah. Khan said that the committee was constituted on October 15 by the chairman of Legislative Council and on October 18 the first meeting of the panel was held following which notice was issued to Taj to produce certain documents before the panel and the next meeting was scheduled to be held on November 15. "However, NC as a true friend withdrew its two members from the committee in an attempt to sabotage the impartial probe into the allegations" Khan said and added that the withdrawal of its two members from the committee was actually a reward to what Taj Mohi-ud-din did during last couple of years to hide the facts about several such corruption charges leveled against the NC top brass. Accusing the ruling coalition of being neck deep in corruption, Khan alleged that coalition partners were shielding each other at the cost of the democratic institutions. PDP leader alleged that everyone knows that the coalition Ministers are involved in corruption at large scale but instead of taking action, the partners were shielding each other and for that they were undermining the democratic institutions. While coming down heavily on National Conference leadership, Khan said the corruption in the State was synonymous with Abdullah family and they were the first to grab the State land and even encroach upon the personal properties of others. Citing examples, Khan said that about 150 kanals of land were grabbed by Abdullahs at Tangmarg and 11 kanals at Gupkar Road after 1975. Accusing the ruling coalition of rendering the Anti-graft bodies constituted during PDP rule redundant, Khan said, "whether it was the State Accountability Commission or other high profile institutions, present dispensation has rendered them toothless". Refuting the allegations of having any personal animosity with Taj, Murtaza Khan said that he was having no personal grudge against the Minister but was doing the job entrusted to him as chairman of the panel. "I don't have anything personal against the Minister, he was leveling these allegations only to sabotage the probe" Khan said. "If he was Mr. clean, why he made desperate attempts to get the panel dissolved," questioned Khan. Khan said that his party raised long ranging issues, including poor governance, corruption and violation of human rights during last three or four years but each time Government misused the State institutions to their advantage. "They own palatial houses in State as well as outside the State. PDP had questioned the source of huge money as some Ministers belonged to average families. The Chief Minister preferred silence on the issue and did not make public various investigation reports," Khan said. |
