| Villagers protest against non- hoisting of national flag in Jandrah | | |

JAMMU, Jan 28: To protest against the administration of Government Higher Secondary School and Degree College, Jandrah for not hoisting the national flag on republic day, a large number of locals along with Panchayat representatives led by Sarpanch Anil Sharma today held a demonstration. Hundreds of people gathered inside the school and college premises as both share the common accommodation where the people raised slogans against the education department for playing with the emotions of the villagers.
Sarpanch Anil Sharma informed that in this school for the last over 50 years there have been regular hoisting of the tri-colour and other cultural programmes on 26th January every year where more than 5000 people gather in the school and celebrate the day but this time neither the Government Higher Secondary School Jandrah nor the Degree College authorities organized such an event though the Village Education Committee (VEC) had met the school authorities to organize the event and had also offered all kind of assistance in this regard.
Villagers while expressing their anger also said that national festivals like Republic Day are celebrated to bring people of different communities and religion together as it promotes communal harmony and emphasized nationalism. On the recommendation of VEC, the Jandrah Panchayat has also passed a resolution condemning the school and college administration for their failure in celebrating the national festival.
The members of the VEC expressed their displeasure with the education department as the school authorities do not act on their recommendations and suggestions. Later, Sarpanch Anil Sharma hoisted the National Flag in the School premises amidst slogans of "Bharat Mata Ki Jai". Prominent citizens who were present on the occasion include, Bikham Singh, Omkar Singh, Sunil Sharma, Naib Sarpanch Salim Mohammad, Govind Singh, Ganga Datt Sharma and others. |
