AKHNOOR, Jan 28 : Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Sharma has stressed upon the teachers to promote age old Guru-Shishya traditions in the schools to preserve country's age old values and principles. Strongly advocating for promoting the moral values in the society, the Minister said that the present system of education has distanced the children from their roots leading to erosion of values . The need of the hour was to revive the age old traditions to keep the younger generation connected with their culture and traditions. He suggested change in the present education set up and introduction of moral education subject to facilitate social transformation, he added. Speaking at the Republic Day functions in Government Higher Secondary School, Sohal and Government High School, Devipur, near here today, the Minister said that teachers have great responsibility in nurturing the students in right direction so that after attaining the education, they become responsible citizens and shoulder the responsibility of the nation. He said students are the future of the nation and parents and teachers shall imbibe a sense of responsibility, patriotism and nationalism in them as only than they would contribute towards national integration. Throwing light on the significance of the Republic Day, the Minister said that the occasion has special importance for the countrymen as this day the nation adopted its own Constitution. The day also reminds us about the numerous sacrifices made by our forefathers and national heroes for attaining the independence, adding that real tribute to those who attained the martyrdom for the nation is to work for national integration and communal harmony which is the real power of India, said Mr. Sham. The Minister announced Rs. 10 lakh for up-gradation of accommodation in the Government Higher Secondary School, Sohal from his Constituency Development Fund (CDF). He also directed for construction of an examination hall and water tank at High School, Devipur.
