| Overloading, rash driving concerns Samba residents | | | Neeraj Badyal Samba, Jan 30 : The increasing number of accidents mainly due to rash driving and overloading has become a serious concern for the authorities here. With a voracity to earn more money, matador operators in Samba are daily surpassing limits of overloading and speeding. A passenger from Samba alleged that the lure of earning more money has made the operators so blind that they have started defying traffic rules and safety of passengers as well as other vehicles plying on the road. "Even the traffic department seems to be casual and has turned a blind eye towards the situation. What else is this if not a nexus between these operators and the department?" he asked. Another passenger said most of the times matadors are seen overloaded, especially those on Samba to Sumb route, Samba to Mansar route, Samba to Bainglar route and at national highway in the morning. "Students are huddled in these matadors and some can be seen hanging with the doors. Moreover, autos playing on village routes are overloaded all the times. Not only overloading but rash driving has also become a nuisance for public. Matadors from Samba to vijaypur move with such a high speed at college road that other vehicles give them way just out of fear of being hit," he added. These matadors can be seen racing with each other with gluttony of getting more passengers at bus stand Samba or bus stand Vijaypur. Even auto rickshaws playing on Samba to DC office route are also overloaded and the administration keeps a big silence on that serious issue. "It seems suspicious why the department does not take any action against this defiance. There is nobody to keep a check on them. Traffic cops can be seen there only for a day or two in a week. They also neglect these speeding matadors. Not only this but some hooligans of the street drive their two wheelers on national highway also so rashly that they become cause of accidents. Sometimes major accidents also happen if the vehicle is moving fast," said a college student. "The reign of these operators is in the hands of MVD, traffic and police which if take strict action against erring drivers, can cure the menace. But very surprisingly the concerning department either Traffic police or ARTO Samba keeps mum, higher authorities need to take appropriate steps by formulating an efficient strategy which is need of the hour," he added. ARTO Samba said they are checking properly at all routes and if any one is found violating traffic rules, he will be punished. "An auto rickshaw is seven seated passed and matador fifteen only," he added. |
