| Stumbled once, JKPCC adheres to deadline on repair works | | Likely to handover Assembly building complex today | | early times report Jammu, Feb 3: Cautious on the safety point, the government has given strict instructions to its construction agency JKPCC to execute necessary renovation and repair works in the damage inflicted Assembly building complex in utmost professional and foolproof manner on technical front so as to leave nothing to chance for the ensuing budget session. As countdown for commencement of Budget session JKPCC, the construction agency has expedited its work and likely to handover it to Assembly Secretariat on Monday, February 4. JKPCC was entrusted with the job of executing this work after the expert team from outside J&K as also the panel set up after the some portions collapsed in November last year, assessed the condition of the building and gave a 'safe' nod. Post this approval, the government which was in dilemma of choosing the venue for hosting the session on account of the condition of building , also decided to convene in the same complex with assurance from JKPCC that things would be put in place with necessary repair works. "JKPCC authorities have been strictly asked to adhere to the deadline for renovation work which is very crucial at this stage…..we had asked them to complete everything by Feb 6 but it looks they would hand over the building by Monday only", said Secretary of the J&K Assembly, Mohammad Ramzan while speaking to ET. We appreciate that JKPCC has gone by the deadline given by the Law Minister Mir Saifullah on January 31 during his inspection of the complex , Ramzan said adding that 2 more days were granted in view of the fact it is matter of safety and nothing should be left unattended. However, he expressed satisfaction at the renovation and repair works and said the building is much stronger than it was earlier and it safe in all respects. Pertinently, the need for initiating the renovation work has been necessitated after some portions of the historic Assembly complex got damaged and caved in due to excessive digging carried out by JKPCC and the engineers hired by its contractors on new Assembly complex being constructed adjacent to the old one. Some vital portions including the media gallery and chambers of some ministers had collapsed due to the negligence of engineers which caused a loud cry and concern from all quarters . Government had even set up a probe panel to look into the cause and culprits responsible for the damage inflicted on a historical mansion. However, nothing concrete has yet come out only except the guidelines as to how it should conduct itself during further course of action on construction of the new complex.
