Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 3 : The All Kargil Students' Association, Jammu (AKSAJ) in collaboration with The Yoga Centre, University of Jammu, today organised their 18th Annual Day Function here at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium Hall, University of Jammu. Mr. Mohammad Akbar Lone, Minister for Higher Education, J&K State was Chief Guest while Mr. Ghulam Hassan Khan, Member of Parliament, Ladakh, was the Guest of Honour. The welcome speech was presented by Marziya Banoo, a student of Jammu University. A cultural programme which included performances in Shina, Balti, Darchiks-Garkone, Chiktan and Zanskar was also presented by students of Kargil presently studying in various school and colleges of Jammu. Asgar Ali Yarkain, President, AKSAJ, in his presidential speech said that the main aim of organising this function is to present the cultural heritage of various fragments of Kargil i.e. Shina, Balti, Darchiks-Garkone, Chiktan and Zanskar. He also presented the memorandum which included various demands like making functional the newly inaugurated Campus of Kashmir University, at Khumb-athang, by March 2013 with good infrastructure and faculty members on permanent basis, establishment of B.Ed College in Kargil, full-fledged courses in all Higher Secondary Schools of Kargil, increasing the percentage of reserved seats for post-graduate courses in both the universities of Kashmir and Jammu. In his address the Chief Guest, Akbar Lone, reiterated his intention to extend all possible help to Kargil. In respect of the demand for making Kargil's campus of the University of Kashmir functional he assured that he would chair a high-level meeting, with all the concerned authorities, very soon, to ensure speedy implementation. Guest of Honour Ghulam Hassan Khan, Member of Parliament, Ladakh also spoke on the occasion. Among other who were present on the occasion included Er. Punchok Tashi, Executive Councilor for Culture and Health, LAHDC Kargil, Councilors of LAHDC Kargil, District Officers of Kargil, Political Leaders etc. Later a prize distribution was also distributed among the students by Mr. Moha-mmad Akbar Lone and Ghulam Hassan Khan. Meanwhile Mr. Qamar Ali Akhone Member of Legislative Assembly & Former Minister for CA&PD and Transport was not able to attend the Annual Day Function due to other engagement. Mohamad Younus and Fatima Banoo conducted the proceedings, while as Raza Ali Vice President delivered the Vote of Thanks. |
