Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Feb 3 : The Indian Air Force (IAF) airlifted 41 stranded passengers from the border town of Gurez as dozens of roads to far-flung and remote areas, including those near the Line of Control (LoC) remained closed due to snowfall. An official spokesman said today 20 passengers, including a child, were airlifted form Bandipora to Dawar, near LoC while 21 stranded passengers were airlifted to Bandipora to Dawar. Dozens of roads to far-flung and remote areas, including those near LoC, besides highway connecting the Ladakh region with the rest of the state, remained closed. However, the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country was through for one-way traffic. Dozens of villages near the LoC in Keran, Karnah, Tangdhar, Machil, Gurez and Neeru remained cut off from their respective district headquarters because of heavy snowfall at Sadhna and Razdan passes. The Zojila pass, which connects the Ladakh region with the rest of the state, remained closed since last month due to heavy snowfall. However, the divisional authorities have been arranging Indian Air Force (IAF) planes to airlift the stranded passengers from these cut off places from time to time. |
