KPs take movement to national level, thousands join torch light procession at Porbandar

AHMEDABAD, Feb 3 : Taking their movement to national level, thousands of people joined the torch light procession at Porbandar Gujarat this evening in support of All Parties Migrant Coordination Committee (APMCC) chairman Vinod Pandit who is on fast unto death for last five days in protest a against the apathy of state and Central Governments towards the exiled Kashmiri Pandits.
Besides Porbandar, joint torch light procession was also taken out at Jammu by various KP organizations including All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference, Kashmiri Pandit Conference, KP Youth Forum and activists of APMCC in support of Mr Pandit this evening.
To express their total solidarity with Mr Pandit the KP organizations today held a demonstration at Janter Manter, New Delhi while another demonstration was held at Bangalore, Jalandhar and Mumbai by the activists of various social and religious organizations in support of KPs demands.
According to reports over 5000 people drawn from all walks of life assembled at Porbandar Gujarat this evening and took out a torch light procession in support of Mr Pandita. The protestors shouting slogans against the J&K and Union Government demanded justice for KPs who have been forced to flee from Valley by Pak sponsored terrorists and were leading an exiled life for last 23 years in Jammu and other Parts of the country.
The movement launched by Mr Pandit got credibility after hundreds of Muslims drawn from Gujarat and Rajasthan joined the demonstration in support of KPs and demanded justice for the exiled Pandits who are leading a refugee life in their own country.
They warned that in case the Government failed to solve the demands of the Pandits and settle them in Valley by taking their geo-political aspirations into consideration. The protestors expressed grave concern over the condition of Hindu shrines in Valley and took J&K Government to task for not taking appropriate steps to safeguard these cultural monuments.
They said that 600 temple are in dilapidated condition while a large number of them were destroyed by terrorists during turmoil and State. They criticized the State Government and accused it of delaying the passage of Kashmiri Hindu Shrines and Temples Bill which was tabled in state Assembly in 2008.
Besides the passage of the Shrines Bill the KPs are demanding permission to visit world famous Sharda Temple in PoK and holding of dialogue with Pakistan in this regard, establishment of Sharda University in J&K, onetime compensation for over aged youth and special employment package for non migrant Hindus of Kashmir Valley.
This is for the first time in 23 years of KPs exile that such a national level movement was launched by community for its survival and existence which openly got public support from civil society of India, claimed APMCC spokesman.
He said the peaceful agitation launched by APMCC will be intensified as more and more organizations all over the country have extended support to join it. The civil society of India has shown grave concern over the plight of exiled Pandits and Government's dilly-dallying tactics in settling their problems and ensuring their honourable rehabilitation by keeping their geo-political aspirations in view, he added.
The spokesman said that civil society of India while expressing concern over forced exile of minorities from Kashmir termed it a biggest challenge to secularism in country and urged the Government to ensure that the community is rehabilitated in Valley by keeping its geo-political aspirations into consideration.
