Unhygienic conditions prevailing near shops catering food stuff
2/4/2013 12:30:32 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Feb 3 : The unhygienic conditions prevailing around the shops catering food stuff, at the flipside of Trikuta Complex, due to a huge dumping ground and a garbage runnel. The concerned authorities were not even aware of the issue.
The area adjoining the flipside of Trikuta Complex, Jammu has turned into a mere dumping ground, along the sides of which, many shops can be seen, cooking and thus, selling food stuff to the tourists, as well as local people.
The ground can be seen easily while stepping down the stairs from Indira Chowk, leading to the Trikuta Complex, Bus stand. Many Buffaloes, Cows, dogs and Hens, etc. can be seen scavenging the garbage, at any time of the day. The ground is surrounded by walls by the three sides, and one huge, underground water channel on the fourth side, with no fence. The water channel also, is full of domestic, as well as commercial garbage coming out from the adjoining shops.
A shopkeeper around there, when asked about the hygienic conditions at his shop, said that he tries his best to convey the best hygienic conditions but still the atmosphere around sometimes become a barrier for the customer to step into his shop.
"I have knocked the doors of concerned departments many times, but no improvement yet," he added, seems as Bus Stand is one of the main areas for tourists where they wait for their respective buses and eat around. But shops selling food stuff with such hygienic conditions would be a last option for one. Also, there is just a few meters distance between the garbage runnel and the kitchens of these shops.
Many tourists can be seen wandering here and there looking for a hygienic place to sit and feast.
"Looking at the conditions around, I'd prefer to starve than to eat something at these shops," says Babita Palekar, a tourist from Maharashtra.
"This is quite disappointing from a city, that is already a tourist hub," she added.
According to the sources, one of the major problems is that many tourists eating in that market do not actually scan the rear area of kitchens of these shops.
Moreover, the poor, homeless animals scavenging out there in the ground are also likely to fall sick very easily.
