| Take stake holders into confidence, Make draft bill public: JK PRM | | Panchayati Raj Act: | | Et Plus Report
Jammu, Mar 18: The valley based association of Sarpanches and Panches the J&K Panchayati Raj Movement (JK PRM) has appealed the Government that before making any amendments in the existing J&K Panchayati Raj Act 1989 the Government must constitute a committee which would hold consultations with the various representative bodies of the Sarpanches and Panches of State. In a statement issued today Convener of J&K Panchayati Raj Movement (JK PRM) Shahnawaz Sultan stated that they certainly want amendments to be made in the existing State Panchayati Raj law so that the provisions under 73rd amendment are incorporated in this but the Government has kept Panchayat representatives in total dark about the draft bill. "We want that consultation should be held with the stake holders i.e. panchayat representatives before any amendment is made in the existing Panchayati Raj Act. If Government asks public opinion for the new Police Act or the RTI Act passed in 2009 why cannot Government seek our opinion and hold discussion with us " Shahnawaz added. JKPRM has said that it will fully support the hunger strike call given by Shafiq Mir Convener of JK Panchayat Conference. Earlier giving an ultimatum to the Jammu and Kashmir Government for introducing Bill in the Legislative Assembly on Panchayat empowerment, Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat members under the banner of JK Panchayat Conference lead by Shafiq Mir on Sunday had decided to go on a three-day hunger strike from 24th March. |
