| SSC appoints Minister's over aged son | | RTI confirms back door appointments | | ET Plus Report SRINAGAR, Mar 18: In a startling revelation State Sports Council (SSC) has admitted that it has appointed dozens of persons without publishing advertisements in local dailies. All this was done to facilitate the appointments of those persons who were highly influential and had the back of political parties. Mohammad Yaqoob Mir a prominent citizen of Jammu and Kashmir had sought information about the persons who had been appointed in State Sports Council. The response he received was astounding and it revealed that without publishing advertisements in local dailies, the department had appointed dozens of persons while one of the appointee is the son of the former Minister and the irony is that the son of the former Minister did not deserve the post as he had crossed the age limit prescribed for Government service. "It is wrong to say that the present Government is serious about eradication of corruption. The fact is that the State Sports Council department is the hub of corruption. If you have approach and influence, you can get the job", a top employee of the Council said. It has come to fore that State Sports Council has appointed some influential persons who had not only crossed the limit but did not deserve these posts. The reply sought under RTI Act has revealed that the Council has appointed various persons including the over aged son of a former Minister on the basis of their influence. These include, Ovais Ahmed son of former Minister Mohammad Shafi Uri (former Education Minister) who has been appointed as Editor for Baramulla District, Joginder Kumar son of Khazan Chand (photographer for Jammu), Jagdish Kumar son of Titro Ram (Groundsman), Bilquis Dar daughter of Nazir Ahmed Dar (ground attendant), Hilal Ahmed son of Mohammad Amin Khan (Groundsman) and Shabir Ahmed Dar son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar (Yoga instructor). Another official said that one Mohammad Afzal Malik son of Fida Mohammad Malik who is presently working as administrative officer in the department didn't deserve the said post. "Afzal was actually the Privat Assistant of former Minister late Ghulam Mohindin Shah and due to approach he has been appointed as the Administrative officer in State Sports Council. In fact, he was appointed for the said post when he was over aged. It is jungle raj and corruption is on peak," he said. Secretary Sports Council, Dilip Thussu said that these persons have been appointed before he took over. "These persons are on the verge of retirement so it doesn't make any sense to raise hue and cry about these persons," Thussu said adding that we should not raise such issues. |
