| Cops register case, lawyers to suspend work today as well..! | | Stand-off continues | | ET Plus Report JAMMU, Mar 18: The stand-off between lawyers' community and Jammu and Kashmir Police continued as the latter on late Saturday evening registered a case against couple of lawyers, who were accused of chain snatching, stopping and attacking a police officer while on duty in uniform. Following registration of case on Saturday later evening, the lawyers' community today suspended routine work in the Court against the action of Jammu police. Furthermore, the Bar Association, Jammu, is learnt to have decided to suspend work in Court for the second consecutive day, tomorrow. Reliable sources told Early Times Plus, that the police sub inspector pressed for registration of FIR against some lawyers who allegedly beat him in full public view. He, in his written complaint, alleged that his gold chain was snatched besides inflicted him severe blows while he was on duty. He has further claimed to identify at least 10 lawyers who have allegedly attacked him. Following written complaint by the sub-inspector, police registered an FIR No 17/2013 under sections 332, 353,341, 147, 382 of Ranbir Panel Code (RPC). However, irate over Police's action against couple of Members of Bar Association, Jammu, the lawyers' community on Monday morning suspended the routine work in the Court and staged a strong protest demonstration at district court premises, here. The Legal luminaries including the women advocates raised slogans against the state police department and flayed the police's decision of registration of FIR against their colleagues. According to eye-witnesses, the advocates moved in procession outside the premises of subordinate courts and raised slogans against the police department. They urged upon the lawyers' community not to attend the routine court proceedings. Number of litigants who had to attend their respective date of hearings in separate courts had to return after receiving just next dates of hearing. The lawyers claimed that they had not done anything wrong and it was the sub-inspector who created a scene on Saturday and thrashed a member of Bar Association, Jammu. They further alleged that it was sub-inspector who hit an advocate first. They demanded registration of FIR against the police officer instead a lawyer. |
