Jammu, Mar 18: Governor N N Vohra inaugurated the Post Office Summit and gave away Dak Sewa Awards for 2011 and 2012 at a function organized by the Department of Posts, J&K Circle, here on Monday.
The awardees included 19 functionaries of the Department of Posts, J&K Circle, and two Post Offices, for providing commendable services to the people.
The Governor inaugurated the Summit by lighting the ceremonial lamp. The panelists from varied fields participating in the Summit will deliberate on the various initiatives which could be taken for bringing progressive improvements in the Postal services in the State to make these increasingly public-oriented.
The Governor, who was the Chief Guest at the function, highlighted the importance of Post Offices and observed that Indian Postal Department is among the oldest organizations in the country which has for decades past provided valuable services to the people, particularly those living in the remote and difficult parts of the country.
Earlier, speaking on the occasion, Samuel said that the J&K Circle was awarded for achieving the second highest growth in Speed Post in the country last year. He stated that this Circle achieved overall 20 percent growth last year which is likely to be 50 percent during this year.
