Kathua locals express concern over infamous ‘accident prone’ Kalibari Chowk

Kathua, Mar 18: Kalibari Chowk has become the accidental prone spot allegedly due to the defective engineering dimensions of crossing on national high way at Kalibari Chowk as utterly has failed to accommodate the huge traffic inflow lacking the space.
Expressing concerns over the issue many locals lamented their woes accusing the authorities for negating the due widening or development of the said square and concerns raised by some are, as under:
Jagdish Verma says not a single day passes without a major or minor accident on this ever busy int-ersection of Kathua at Kalibari connecting Kathua town and Jammu Pathankote National Highway.
‘As the intersection lacks any signal of link road to National Highway and thus many drivers coming from the link roads often get confused when high speed vehicles suddenly come to scene and thus many times resulting into unfortunate mishaps, he adds, further saying, “The Kalibari Chowk must be given with a modern flyover so the area can be made as safe and protect zone.
Bupinder Singh Slaria opinions Kali-bari Chowk has become a most accident prone area due to the negligence of concerned authorities.
Demanding the flyover in this area, Singh says that there needs flyover to make smooth traffic movement and to avoid fatal accidents which usually result into loss of precious human lives or leaving many maimed and crippled.
Another Local from Kathua town Sunil, blaming the engineering design of the ever busy intersection says that the lack of proper design to cater the load of heavy traffic the square is turning into a ‘terror square’ to many people as accidents are a routine affair at this square. He satirically quips that the area is known as ‘accident prone Chowk’ and it affects the psyche of drivers and often they met or often has close shave. He also asks for deployment of team of traffic police to control the traffic movement on this most dangerous and accident prone Chowk.
Humming similar tones Sanjeev Verma observes Kalibari Chowk whi-ch was once the main attr-action of the entire district Kathua as it connects main Kathua to the national highway but with the increase of traffic inflow in manifolds the area is now has become infamous for fatal accidents which often took place at this square. Blaming the engineering of the T –intersection which is very narrow to cater the high traffic inflow, he also demands early need of flyover in this area
Varinder Sharma also put all bla-mes on wrong engineering by defa-ult which is resulting into making this Chowk infamous for accident which happen now and then in this area. He also laments that elected representatives have failed to take up the issue to concerned quarters and also demands construction of fly over in the area at earliest to meet the congestion of traffic in the area
Nitu Singh: Kalibari Chowk due to heavy inflow of the traffic has dangerous ‘net’ where not a single day passes when accident don’t happen. Blame it on rowdy driving or the narrow space but the things needs to be mended at earliest before it’s too late, she says and adds Government ought to address this biggest issue in Kathua.
Monu Pangotra also terms the intersection a defective crossing and demands early alternative to reduce the accidents at this square and adds that Government and concerned authorities needs to preventive measures and also install a traffic control system at this place to regulate the traffic.
