| Sagar for expediting rural development works | | Asks to construct all Panchayat Ghars before Sept. 2013 | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Mar 28: The Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar today stressed for expediting the implementation of different developmental and welfare schemes being launched so that employability for unemployed educated youth be created. Better avenues can be made available to the youth for improving their socio-economic conditions, besides facilitate the rural population, the Minister added. This was stated by the Minister while reviewing the performance of Rural Development department during the meeting. Among others, Commissioner-Secretary Rural Development, Mr. Farooq Ahmad Peer, Director Rural Development department, Mr. Altaf Ahmad Mir, besides Assistant Commissioner Development of various districts participated in the meeting. It was given out that an amount of Rs. 345 crore have been expended under Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), while as Rs. 52.50 crore have been utilized under Indira Awas Yojana in the districts of Kashmir division. It was also informed that under 11th Panchayat Finance Commission, as many as 1040 Panchayats shall be constructed at a cost of Rs. 20 lakh each, out of which construction of 409 Panchayats have already been taken in hand for which Rs. 16 crore have been expended till date. The Minister was also informed that under Swarnajayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana (SGSY) scheme Rs. 6 crore has been utilized and 3346 persons were benefited. Mr. Sagar exhorted upon the officers to bring transparency in the distributions of Job Cards to provide succour to the poor and ensure the construction of all Panchayat Ghars before September 2013. Earlier, various deputations from different areas of the Valley called on the Minister and put forth their demands. The Minister assured the deputationists that their genuine demands shall be taken care of on priority. |
