| Rather launches e-Post/Fax Post services in J&K, lauds India Post for innovations | | | JAMMU: Moving ahead from the delivery of traditional mails the Department of Posts today launched e-Post and Fax Post Services in Jammu and Kashmir for transmission and delivery of greetings & messages. The new services were today launched by Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather, Minister for Finance & Ladakh Affairs in the presence of Mr. John Samuel Chief Postmaster General, Jammu and Kashmir at an impressive function at Gandhi Nagar Head Post Office.
On the occasion the Minister also released J&K Postal Circle’s Calendar for the financial year 2013-2014 depicting the rich diversity and beauty of state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather lauded the steps taken by Department of Posts especially Mr. John Samuel, Chief Postmaster General, J&K for improving the postal services in the state. “Since Mr. Samuel has taken the command of Postal establishment in Jammu and Kashmir things in the Department has changed rapidly. He has infused a new sense of enthusiasm among the postal employees which is quite evident from visible change in their working” remarked the Minister. He launched the e-Post Service by sending message to all the Postmasters of J&K adding that such services will prove a boon for the rural areas.
The minister appreciated the steps taken by Department of Posts, J&K Circle in making J&K a financially inclusive state adding that Post Offices have wider reach than the banks and hence play an active role in the financial development of people living in the state. “It is impressive that Department of Posts have achieved target of 100 percent Financial Inclusion in 150 villages in the state and achieving 35% growth which is highest in the country despite being a small state.
Mr. John Samuel, Chief Postmaster General in his address said that Department of Posts, J&K Circle is keen in development the people of the state and is making an extra effort for brining Post Offices closer to people.
Briefing about the new services e-Post/Fax Post the Chief PMG said that through e-POST, customers can send their greetings and messages to any address in state and country. “The internet revolution has allowed rapid exchange of communication through emails. However, the internet has not reached most of the Rural India and other remote areas. To bridge this digital divide, and to bring the benefit of the revolutionary internet technology to people living in these areas, Department of Posts has introduced ePost” said Mr. John Samuel adding that earlier there were telegrams to send instant messages when modes of communication were limited but now e Post has replaced the telegrams. e-Post message will be printed and enveloped at the destination Post Office and will be delivered by the Postman as a letter. He told that it is for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir that e-post greetings have been introduced with which people can send messages for different purposes on different occasions.
Mr. John Samuel said computerization of all Post Offices in the J&K has enabled the launch e-Post greetings in Jammu and Kashmir and these messages will be delivered on the same day/next day in villages etc. He informed that e-Post Corporate is also available though which Department of Posts is offering delivery of common messages to cross sections of recipients.
The Chief PMG said that for quite some time a need has been felt by J&K Postal Administration to provide fax facilities to the customers and with a view to cater to this need Fax Post has been introduced in the major Post Offices in Jammu and Kashmir. Through this service faxes shall not only be sent to the desired destinations but also received and delivered to the concerned customers at nominal charges. “Since people don’t have faxes at their homes they can avail the Fax Post service for sending and receiving faxes” added he. Mr. John Samuel announced that soon a Women Post Office will be soon launched the state.
Mr. Navin Aggarwal, DG Youth Services and Spots, J&K, who received the first Calendar appreciated the steps taken by DoP for improving its services in J&K. He said the role of the Post Offices have been redefined in the recent past. Mr. Aggarwal appreciated the multifaceted services being offered by the Department of Posts and lauded the role of its employees.
Mr. Ashwani Khullar Executive Member Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Jammu and Mr. Anil Kohli Gen. Secy. Gandhi Nagar Traders Association also spoke on the occasion. Earlier Mr. Amit Sharma Director Finance (Postal), J&K made the welcome address while Mr. Jagdeep Gupta Director Postal Services, J&K presented vote of thanks. |
