JAMMU, Apr 2 : Mr. N. N. Vohra, Governor, has stressed the need for enlarging the resource base for giving a significant boost to the activities of Scouts and Guides movement in the State to bring a much larger number of youth under its ambit.
The Governor was addressing the Scouts and Guides, their Instructors and the functionaries of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, at the 8th Rajya Puraskar Award Ceremony held at Raj Bhavan here today.
The Governor, who is the Patron of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, presented Rajya Puraskar to 199 successful Scouts and Guides of the Jammu Division at the Award Presentation Ceremony. The awardees comprised 88 Scouts and 111 Guides.
The Governor lauded the good work being done by the functionaries of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides and congratulated the recipients of the Awards. He evinced keen interest in the skill demonstration presented by the Scouts and Guides on this occasion, interacted with the awardees and wished them bright careers ahead.
Referring to the need for constructing a building to house the headquarters of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, the Governor observed that as soon as the former are able to secure the required land Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board will provide all possible support for this purpose. He complimented and thanked Mr. Madan Lal Sharma, MP, for announcing Rs. 20 lakh out of his MPLAD fund for the construction of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides Headquarters building in Jammu.
Earlier, the Governor unfolded the Scouts and Guides flag. The Scouts and Guides presented prayer and the flag song. The Governor, Mrs. Usha Vohra, First Lady, and other dignitaries were also presented the Scout Scarf and bouquets on the occasion.
Mr. Madan Lal Sharma, MP, thanked the Governor for taking keen interest in the promotion of the activities of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides in the State. He announced a support of Rs. 20 lakh out of his MPLAD fund for the construction of Headquarters building of this organization in Jammu. He congratulated the awardee Scouts and Guides.
Mr. R. S. Chib, President, J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, speaking on the occasion, observed that Scouts and Guides movement promotes discipline and camaraderie and strengthens national integration. He thanked the Governor for his generous support and guidance which has helped in the promotion of Scouts and Guides movement in the State.
Mr. N. A. Khan, State Chief Commissioner, J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, in his welcome address, gave details about the activities of the organization in the State and the future plan of action for further promotion thereof.
Mr. I. D. Soni, State Secretary, J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, presented a Vote of Thanks.
Mr. Navin Aggarwal, Director General, Youth Services and Sports; Mr. Navin K. Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Governor; Mr. G. A Qureshi, Director, Industries and Commerce; Mrs. Roma Wani, Hony General Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, J&K State Branch, senior functionaries of the organization, Principals of various schools and a good number of Scouts and Guides and their leaders were present at the function.
The students also presented a brief cultural programme on this occasion. |
