JAMMU, Apr 7: Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services & Sports, Mr. Taj Mohiud Din today appealed the business community to play their role in promoting and popularising sports in the State. Addressing a gathering today after giving away prizes to the winners of 4th Jammu Marathon which was held in February this year, the Minister said corporate community in the State should come forward by way of sponsoring events and sports meets. This, he said, would go a long way in encouraging boys and girls to actively participate in sports events and take the spirit of the game forward. Mr. Taj said since the resources with the Government are limited and youth of the State need to be prepared for meeting challenges at national and international level, it is obligatory upon the business community to pledge their support to sports promotion in a big way. This, he added, is also an important duty towards the State and society. On the occasion, the Minister gave away prizes to the winners of Jammu Marathon and also the heads of the Government Departments and agencies which supported and co-operated in the successful conduct of the race. Ms. Manpreet, Ms. Harpreet and Ms. Naazish received cash prizes of Rs. 21,000, Rs. 11,000 and Rs. 5,100 respectively in female category while as Mr. Kanwal Singh of Bulandshahar, Mr. Ramraj and Mr. Reyaz got the same prizes in male category. The Minister also felicitated heads of several departments and individuals who actively supported the event. Those who were felicitated included SSP, Jammu, Rajeshwar Singh, Joint Director Information, Jammu, Ms. Smita Sethi, Mr. S. K. Arora, Mr. Vijay Gupta and others. |
