| Gujjars appeal for inclusion of Gojri in 8th Schedule | | | Jammu, Apr 7: The Gujjar community of Jammu and Kashmir today appealed to Union Government to expedite the process for inclusion of Gojri language in the eighth schedule of Indian Constitution. According to press release, Dr. Javaid Rahi, Secretary Tribal Foundation, stated that as per communication the committee gave report in 2004 and a decision thereon is yet to be taken. "Once a decision is taken on the report inclusion of Gojri will be considered" the communication reads. Dr. Javaid Rahi said a team of Gojri writers, poets and intellectuals along with our Political dignitaries will visit Delhi shortly to press upon the Union Government to speed up the matter regarding inclusion of Gojri into Indian Constitution without any further dely. He said that Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has also recommended the case of Gojri language for inclusion into eighth schedule and prior to Governors from time to time recommended the cases of Gojri to Union Government. Talking about the Gojri Language he said "Noted saint scholar poet of 13th century Hazrat Amir Khusroo had formally mentioned Gojri language in the list of eighteen major Indian languages of his time. Several researchers agreed that Gojri is the mother of Gujrati, Rajasthani, Urdu and Haryanvi Languages," they said. The, Gojri language is the first language of millions of people in south Asia resides in India, Pakistan and Afghanistan and in J&K more than 25% of total population speaks Gojri.
