JAMMU: The Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Mr Taj Mohi-ud-Din today laid foundation stone of Rs 7 crore Multipurpose Indoor Sports (MPIS) Complex here at MAM Stadium targeted to be completed within a period of one year. The stadium on its completion would have seven halls for various interesting and enthusiastic sports activities which include Taekwondo, Wushu, Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton, Table Tennis and other activities of latest taste of youth. Addressing the functioning on the occasion, the Minister said that the proposed Indoor stadium would be a precious gift for the youth of Jammu city as it would have facilities for varied sports activities with state of art infrastructure. He said there was great need of such a stadium in Jammu and the government was keen to develop sports facilities in the state of national and international standards. Underscoring the need for upgrading sports infrastructure in the State, the Minister said that several initiatives have been already taken by the government in this regard and measures are afoot to increase the number of facilities for sports lovers to take up various sports activities in addition to their academic pursuits. He said that the youth of the state have tremendous potential to participate in every kind of sports activity but there is dire need to explore their talent by way of extending various hi-tech facilities at par with other states of the country. The Member Legislative Assembly, Mr Ashok Khajuria, who was also present at the foundation laying ceremony, congratulated the people of Jammu for having such a stadium in the city. Mr Khajuria also announced Rs 6.50 Lakh from his CDF fund for construction of Kabaddi Court and assured that more funds would be provided as per need by him in future.. Among others Secretary Sports Council, Mr. Dilip Thusoo, trainers of national and international repute, sports lovers and a large number of students were present on the occasion. |
