JAMMU: The 5-day Basohli miniature painting camp, which began at Mubarak Mandi here on Saturday, concluded today. Organised by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages on the eve of World Heritage Day, the event saw participation of several established and emerging artistes. On the concluding day today, certificates of participation were presented to the participants by Commissioner/Secretary, Tourism and Culture, Atal Dulloo. A painting exhibition showcasing the painted works was also thrown open by him. It may be recalled that the camp was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand on April, 13 as part of Baisakhi festivities. As many as 13 artistes from Kathua, Basohli, Jammu and Udhampur participated in the 5-day long camp. Speaking on the occasion Commissioner/Secretary, Tourism and Culture, Atal Dulloo assured the participants that adequate financial support would be provided to them by the government for promotion of this art form. Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Secretary Academy, Khalid Bashir Ahmad said that the aim of holding the camp was to create awareness among people about preservation of cultural heritage of the State. He said that such events were important as they provided a ready platform to the artistes for showcasing their talent. The artistes who participated in the camp included Dharampal Verma, Shakeel Ahmad Raza, Kabir Maharana, Sona Padaha, Dheeraj Kapoor, Rajini Balla, Pooja, Savita Sharma, Sushil Padaha, Antima Manhas, Deepa Soni, and Anuradha Kumari. |
