| Sagar for speeding up convergence of MGNREGA | | | JAMMU: Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar today asked the officers to ensure that the convergence of the plantation aspect of MGNREGA is done at an earliest. The Minister was addressing officers during a high level meeting convened to work out the modalities of convergence of plantation of MGNREGA with other line departments like agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, Forest etc. Commissioner Secretary Rural Development Department, Mr. Farooq Ahmed Peer, Commissioner Secretary Forests, Mr. Aijaz Iqbal, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Mr. Vinod Ranjan, Directors Rural Development, Jammu / Srinagar, Mr. Shafiq Ahmed Raina, Mir Altaf Ahmed, Director Social Forestry, Mr. A. K. Gupta, Member Secretary MGNREGA, Mr. Pawan Rathore and other senior officers of horticulture, agriculture, sericulture, fisheries, animal husbandry, and forests were present in the meeting. The Minister directed the officers to prepare a detailed project report about the activities of the different departments to be undertaken under the convergence aspect of MGNREGA so that the execution of the plantation drive and other related aspects can be executed within the shortest possible time. He said that the scope of activities to be undertaken under this flagship schemes can also be broadened so that the activities like floriculture, pisi culture, aforestration, checking soil erosion and animal husbandry and other related activities can be undertaken. Mr. Sagar said that the scheme has been instrumental in changing the socio-economic profile of the people living in far-off areas and need the is to broadened the ambit of the scheme by ensuring its convergence with that of other departments. The Minister also directed the officers to conduct workshops wherein the officials of different departments can be educated about the guidelines of convergence of the scheme with their parent departments so that the execution of the same is speeded up. He said that we also have to ensure that the funds earmarked under the plantation activity are utilized to the maximum and in a judicious manner. |
