| Gurezi inaugurates BVH at Kalibari in Kathua | | | KATHUA: In a bid to boost the activities of Sheep and Animal Husbandry Departments and develop their infrastructure at modern lines, the Minister of State for Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Mr. Nazir Ahmed Gurezi on Wednesday inaugurated Block Veterinary Hospital (BVH) at Kalibari in District Kathua constructed at a cost of Rs.28.02 lakhs under the centrally sponsored scheme RIDFxvi, NABARD. Addressing a huge gathering on the occasion, the Minister said that BVH would help in providing health and veterinary cover to sheep and goat population of the area. He said the construction of these Veterinary Hospitals/Dispensaries under different schemes was the endeavour of the Government to facilitate the rural populace at their door steps. Mr. Gurezi said that Government is making every effort to provide every kind of facility to common masses, particularly downtrodden, needy and people belonging to the Schedule and Schedule Tribe and other backward classes. These facilities include potable water, health care, electricity and other basic amenities, necessary for living a peaceful and healthy life in the remote and backward areas still living under below poverty line. Appealing people to avail the benefits of various schemes of reservation under various categories, the Minister stressed upon them to provide quality education to their children, which will in return yield good results for their communities. Stressing for using latest technology in the production of mutton, the Minister said that Government has provided hi-breed livestock to the farmers so that the economic conditions of this community are improved. He said that instructions have already been issued to keep available every medicine at the doorsteps of the goat and Sheep rearing communities so that they may be able to flourish this trade, adding that this sector has huge employment generating potential. The Minister while taking stock of the departmental works and activities was informed that by the end of last financial year, total sheep population in Kathua district was recorded as 2.824 lakh out of which 2.105 is cross breed while as the goat population was recorded as 2.121 lakh. He was further informed that the mutton and wool production in the district was recorded as 23.71 lakh kg and 5.25 lakh kg respectively. It was also said that presently 56 Sheep Extension Centres including 3 Centres by Internal arrangements are looking after the sheep and goat population of the District. It was also told that during the last year, 10.81 Dosing against Gastro-intestinal worms, 6.81 lakh dipping against skin diseases and 3.39 lakh vaccinations against various bacterial and viral infections in sheep and goats were conducted. Moreover, 1.04 lakh sheep and goats were provided with the requisite treatment against various ailments. The breeding coverage was provided to 1.40 lakh sheep during this period. The Minister was further informed that the district has a sheep breeding farm at Billawar and a dairy goat farm at Rajbagh where quality rams and bucks are produced for genetic improvement and 766 such rams and 95 bucks were distributed by the department among the private flocks for cross-breeding purposes during this period. Responding to the demands of the people like Insurance, and providing medicare to the flocks during migration at different remote and hilly areas, Mr. Gurezi said that he has already issued instructions to the Officers for providing quality medicines to them. Later, the Minister also planted a sapling in the Sheep Husbandry Complex. On the occasion, the Minister distributed cheques worth Rs. 10 lakh among 100 beneficiaries under Tribal Sub plan scheme. Earlier, the Member Parliament, Chowdhary Lal Singh urged the Minister for providing medicines to the members of these communities for saving the lives of their sheep and goats. Among others, the MLA, Kathua, Mr Charnagjeet Singh, District Development Commissioner, Kathua Director Sheep Husbandry Jammu officers of District Administration and department were also present on the occasion. The Minister enroute to Kathua, also interacted with some farmers and members of Bakerwal community and inspected progress made under National Mission for protein supply and RKVY. He directed the concerned officers to provide Tent and Tarpal to one Haji Qasim. |
