| JKAACL holds day-long seminar on Urdu prose in J&K | | | JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages Wednesday held a day-long seminar on Urdu prose in J&K where eminent scholars, researchers and writers presented papers and shared views with the audience. The seminar was held in two sessions. The first session was presided over by noted litterateur and former Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Prof. N. D. Sharma while the second session was chaired by writer, Anand Lehar. Prof. Zahoor-ud-Din, former Head of Department, Urdu, University of Jammu, presented key paper on Urdu prose writing in Jammu and Kashmir. Describing Urdu as a sweetest language he said that it continues to be the medium of expression for a large majority in the State. In his presidential remarks, Prof. N.D. Sharma praised the Academy for promoting and propagating Urdu as a language, adding, the Academy should continue to make efforts in this respect. Earlier while welcoming eminent scholars and intellectuals, Secretary Academy, Khalid Bashir Ahmad dwelled upon the qualities of Urdu in detail and hoped that the day-long seminar would go a long way in highlighting different shades of Urdu prose writing vis a vis Jammu and Kashmir. Highlighting Academy’s role in promoting Urdu, Khalid cited the example of Academy’s publication programme and referred to the newly launched bi-monthly news magazine ‘Saqafat’. He said that the endeavour attested Academy’s concern for Urdu as a medium of expression, adding, more such initiatives were in the offing. During the day-long seminar, aimed at assessing the progression of Urdu prose writing in J&K, scholars and intellectuals spoke on different aspects of prose writing with specific references to use of Urdu. During the seminar number of scholars and intellectuals presented their papers. Dr. Premi Roman presented a paper on Urdu drama in Jammu and Kashmir while Ayaz Rasool Nazki read out a paper on history writing in Urdu language. Noor Shah presented his paper on Urdu short story writing in Jammu and Kashmir. Others who presented their papers on different aspects of Urdu included Dr. Qudoos Javed (Urdu criticism in J&K), Dr. Nazir Azad (Urdu prose), Dr. Shafaq Sopori (Urdu prose post 1947) and Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Wani (Urdu research in J&K). A panel of writers and intellectuals comprising Anand Lehar, Khalid Hussain, Aseer Kishtwari, GR Hasrat Gadda, and Khurshid Kazmi took part in post paper reading discussions. Later a book titled Tere Ishq Main by Anjali Ada was also released. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr. Liaqat Jafri. |
