Sham inspects Dhansar WSS, directs concerned to complete project in time bound manner

DHANSAR (REASI): Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma has said that scarcity of drinking water in Katra will be overcome very soon. He said Dhansar Water Supply Scheme has been initiated to cater the needs of Katra town exclusively.
Interacting with the prominent citizens of Katra town today, the Minister said that Government is aware of the drinking water requirements of Katra town in view of huge flow of tourists, therefore, the Dhansar WSS was started in November,2011 which is targeted to be completed in March 2014. He said the executing agency has been directed to speed up the pace of work and complete the project within the time schedule.
Meanwhile, the Minister directed the Chief Engineer, PHE to immediately dispatch the necessary equipment to augment the Jajjar Water Supply Scheme to enhance its efficacy. The Katra town is presently fed by this scheme. He also directed the local officers to effectively regulate the water supply in the town. To meet the additional requirement, he asked for keeping a provision of tanker services.
Earlier, the Minister inspected the Dhansar Water Supply Scheme along with a team of engineers. He issued instructions to the engineers to ensure quality of work and complete the scheme as per the target. He also directed them to expedite the compensation to the land owners whose land has been acquired by the department for developing the scheme.
While briefing the Minister about the status of the scheme, the Chief Engineer, PHE, Mr. Ashwani Sharma informed that over 50 percent works have been completed and all out efforts will be made to commission the scheme according to the schedule. He said the scheme was started in November, 2011 at an estimated cost of Rs. 47.42 crore. The designed capacity of scheme is 1 lakh gallon per hour. It will have four stages along with equal number of sump tanks to ensure the efficiency of the scheme. The scheme has rich source of Dhansar spring.
MLA Reasi, Mr. Baldev Sharma, DC, Reasi, Mrs. Nirmal Sharma, SSP, Reasi, Th. Raghubir Singh, Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control, Mr. K.K. Gupta and sectoral officers also accompanied the Minister.
