| Anti-Tobacco programme held at SP Higher Secondary School, Srinagar | | | SRINAGAR: To sensitize and make students and officers of Education department aware about the hazardous effects of smoking and chewable tobacco products on the health of human beings, a daylong programme was organized by J&K Voluntary Health and Development Association, Srinagar in collaboration with Directorate of School Education Kashmir here today. Among others, Chief Education Officers besides Zonal Education Officers of the districts of Central Kashmir participated. The programme was held at Government S.P. Higher Secondary School, Srinagar where the Chief Post Master General J&K Circle, Mr. John Samuel, Regional Director, Voluntary Health Association of India, Ms. Seema Gupta and Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports, Ms. Nilofar, Health experts from various Health Institutions besides Executive Director, J&K Voluntary Health Association spoke on the measures being initiated to curb the menace and ill effects of smoking. The programme was aimed at giving impetus to the drive against the use of tobacco products at educational institutions in view of the recent directions of declaring Srinagar and Budgam as smoke free districts and banning of chewable tobacco products including sale, manufacture, storage, transportation, displaying and distribution of gutkha and pan masala besides zarda containing tobacco and nicotine ingredients. The administrators of educational institutions were also enjoined to enforce the provisions of Tobacco Control Act, 2003 in and around their institutions. It was also emphasized to bring a positive change by curbing the use of tobacco products for a healthy society. |
