| Sadhotra spells out peoples’ role in decision making, monitoring development | | | Early Times Report
KISHTWAR, Apr 18: Minister for Planning, Development, Labour and Employment Mr Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today reaffirmed the resolve of coalition government to empower the people at grass root level and seek their maximum participation in decision making for equitable development of three regions of the State. Addressing a series of public meetings in Marh constituency this afternoon, the Minister gave an overview of initiatives taken for the overall development of the state, saying the effort is gigantic which calls for active support of the people. “People are best judges of gauging performance and providing crucial feedback on the pace of development and quality of work being undertaken by various executing agencies”, he said, hoping that they will continue to perform their role of helping the government in devising developmental strategies keeping in view specific requirements of specific areas. In this context, he referred to the role of Panchayat members and said that they can identify the works to be undertaken for the overall good of the people as a whole. Emphasizing the need for time bound completion of various works, MrSadhotra said that developmental projects and other welfare schemes lose their efficacy if delayed or fail to meet the aspirations of the people. It is with this view, the government functionaries have been made accountable to monitor the status of schemes on regular basis for ensuring their implementation and completion within stipulated time frame. Referring to the agenda set by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for achieving the goal of development in rural and far off areas on priority, the Minister said an effective monitoring mechanism has been put in place. Alongside, he said third party monitoring has been introduced to ensure high standards of works undertaken by the agencies concerned. The Minister also made a mention of various revolutionary measures like Right to Information and Public Utility Guarantee Scheme and said these are few of the steps taken to empower the people and make the administration more accountable. Mr. Sadhotra assured the people that National Conference is committed to provide equal opportunities of progress and development to the people belonging to various regions and sub-regions. National Conference, he said is a mass movement that has been striving for overall good of the people irrespective of cast, creed and colour. Apart from a large local gathering Sarpanches and Panches of adjoining areas attended the meetings. |
