| Wani meets Union Ministers, seeks early release of pending funds under PMRP | | | NEW DELHI: Minister for R&B, Mr. Abdul Majid Wani met Union Minister for Rural Development Mr. Jai Ram Ramesh here and apprised him about the progress of implementation of PMGSY in the State. He informed the Union Minister about the difficulties in the implementation process due to unavailability of funds required for land acquisition to complete several road projects under the flagship programme. Mr. Wani informed the Union Minister that Rs. 1277 crore are required to complete these ongoing schemes. He said till date only Rs. 577 crore have been released under the PMRP and the balance amount of Rs. 700 crore is still pending. Responding to the issue Mr. Jai Ram Ramesh said that he has already taken up the matter with the Prime Minister and he is quite hopeful that this window under PMRP for release of balance amount of Rs. 700 crore shall be opened up so as to enable the State Government to implement PMGSY programme in totality in Jammu and Kashmir. The Union Minister also assured that as many as 200 new Projects submitted by the State Government for road length of 2000 km under PMGSY to provide connectivity to remaining areas of J&K shall be shortly sanctioned. The total cost of these 200 new projects is approximately Rs. 2000 crore. The R&B Minister raised the demand for revision of schedule of rates which are required to be revised by Union Government in view of price escalation especially in labour cost. Mr. Wani also brought to the notice of the Union Minister the dilapidated condition of some existing roads in the State requiring immediate upgradation. He also raised the issue of construction of concrete pavements in far-flung snow bound areas. Mr. Jai Ram Ramesh assured the Minister that these demands will be considered. He asked the R&B Minister to submit the projects for upgradation of existing roads which are in extremely poor condition so that the same can be considered for approval. Later, the R&B Minister also met Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways, Mr. C. P. Joshi and presented him an overview of the road network in the State and need for making available funds under centrally sponsored schemes including CRF in order to achieve equitable percentage of road connectivity especially in far-flung and difficult areas like erstwhile Doda, Reasi, Kupwara, Poonch, Rajouri, Udhampur and Kathua. Mr. Joshi assured full central assistance in improving the overall road network in the State including support to improve the Jammu Srinagar National Highway. Issues related to tunnels including Sudmahadev, Kapran etc were also discussed with the Union Minister. During his visit the R&B Minister also took stock of JK House and its functioning. He asked the concerned officials to prepare and submit a proposal for its upgradation and expansion. |
