leh, May 23: Mr. N. N. Vohra, Governor, today emphasized the need for establishing Feed and Fodder Banks in the Ladakh region, particularly to serve Changthang and other remote areas, to meet the fodder requirements of livestock during winter months. He also stressed the need for construction of Shelter Sheds for live stock in such areas. The Governor was receiving briefing about the to-date status of development of agriculture, horticulture, animal and sheep husbandry and other development sectors in Leh district at a high level meeting held here this afternoon. Recalling the loss of Pashmina goats, sheep and cattle in the Changthang area of Ladakh this winter, the Governor stressed the high importance of all required measures being taken, including the procurement of feed and fodder, setting up units for baling the fodder to enable economical transportation, establishment of feed/fodder storage centres in the remote areas and putting in place animal shelters, wherever required in the Ladakh region. He added that a comprehensive Action Plan needs to be put in place in this regard well before the onset of next winter. LAHDC, Leh Councillors from the Changthang area presented a Memorandum to the Governor on this occasion highlighting their development demands, which included, interalia, opening up tourist routes in the area, enhancement of funds under BADP, construction of roads, provision of mobile telephone facility, filling up the posts of Principals at the Higher Secondary Schools at Nyoma and Tangtse. The Governor assured the Councillors that the issues raised by them would be taken up with the concerned authorities in the Central and State Governments. Among those who participated in the meeting included Mr. Sonam Dorjay, Executive Councillor, Agriculture, LAHDC, Leh; Mr. Dorjay Mutup, Mr. Thupstan Wangchuk, Mr. Namgial Dorjay and Mr. Namgyal Phuntsog, Councillors of the Hill Council; Mr. Navin K. Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Governor; Mr. Vivek Gupta, SSP, Leh; Mr. Tsering Morup, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Leh, and senior officers and engineers of the concerned departments. |
