Jora lays foundation stone of Community Hall
Inaugurates 2 parks at Lower Roop Nagar

JAMMU, May 23: Minister for Urban Development and Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora today laid foundation stone of Community Hall at Krishna Nagar in Municipal Ward No 12 and visited various localities of Jammu city to inspect the ongoing development works. The Minister was accompanied by MLA, West, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation, Mr. Kuldeep Khajuria, Vice Chairman Jammu Development Authority, Mr. Satish Nehru, Superintendent Engineer, JDA, Mr. P.L. Bhushan, Ex Corporator, Mr. Balbir Kumar and other senior officers of concerned departments.
The Community Hall is being constructed by Jammu Municipal Corporation at an estimated cost of Rs. 24 lakh and on its completion it would be made available on rent to local residents for holding marriage and other functions. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the government was endeavouring hard to develop urban and rural pockets on modern lines adding that in this regard several innovative measures have been initiated to upgrade the public utilities in Jammu city.
The Minister asked the executing agency to complete the project within a period of six months to facilitate the people of the area. He said that with the completion of the community hall, the people of the area could arrange social as well as religious functions on nominal fee. He appreciated the JMC for taking concrete steps for improving civic amenities in the city localities and constructing recreational parks and developing green areas.
The Minister also inaugurated two parks at lower Roop Nagar, in Ward no 66.
The newly developed parks completed at a cost of Rs 25 lakh was a long pending demand of the people of the area. The Minister said that newly developed parks have added to the beauty of Roop Nagar and adjoining areas where local residents could spend their leisure time.
The people of the area also putforth various demands, including diversion of local nallah, repair of lanes, drains, blacktopping of roads in the surrounding areas of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Municipal Park and other dilapidated roads, besides provision of metal/steel gratings to cover various slots along the local nallah to keep the surroundings clean.
The Minister gave a patient hearing and assured that the legitimate demands would be fulfilled on priority. He asked the municipal authorities to prepare a plan to cover up the nallah so that the matter will be taken up with the planning department for funding.
