JAMMU: Continuing its effort to minimize man-animal conflict through awareness and education, the Department of Wildlife Protection (WL) Jammu organized a camp to aware people about forest fires and man-animal conflict at village Tara, Nandini Wildlife Sanctuary. The Sarpanchs and Panches from the adjoining Panchayats, school children and wildlife staff participated attended the camp. Wildlife Warden Jammu, Sayeed Ahmed, spoke about the cause of man-wild animal conflicts and occurring of forest fires and suggested ways to avert such incidents to save human life and protect wildlife. He explained that children and women are the soft targets of leopards and monkeys and they should be very alert and vigilant while going to schools or while grazing in forest or its fringes. He sought the cooperation and participation of local populace in protecting forests and wildlife. He said the main cause of the conflict is the fast shrinking habitat of wildlife and depletion of natural resources due to burgeoning human population, biotic interference and change in land use pattern. Wildlife Range Officer Nandini, Noor Mohammad also interacted with the people and stressed on the safety of human lives and wildlife. He advised the locals and school children to observe utmost care and follow the Do’s and Don’ts issued by the department as a precaution. He also advised the locals of the area to take precautionary measures to avert forest fire. Prominent among the locals who participated and spoke on the occasion including Saraj Din Sarpanch, Surinder Kumar Naib Sarpanch, Tripta Devi Panch, Sandokh Singh Panch, Krishan Chand Pand, Vidiya Devi Panch, Mohd Gani Panch and Vakil Singh Numberdar. |
