Jora flags off rally ‘walk for Srinagar’ for clean, green Srinagar

SRINAGAR : Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora on Sunday said that it is the responsibility of every stakeholder to share his concern about keeping the Srinagar city neat and clean The Minister was expressing his views while interacting with the members of civil societies, students and others after flagging off the ‘Walk for Srinagar’ gathered here to participate in the grand marathon rally organised by Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) in collaboration with Department of Posts, J&K Circle. Former Minister and MLA, Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Post Master General, J&K circle Mr. John Samuel, District Development Commissioner, Srinagar Mr. Farooq Ahmed Shah, Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, G. N. Qasba, Commissioner, Administration, SMC, Mr. Bashir Ahmed and other senior district officers and members of civil society were present. Mr Jora said that though the SMC is the prime agency for ensuring cleanliness of the Srinagar city but at the same time all the stakeholders have to share their responsibility in keeping the Srinagar city neat, clean and green.
Mr. Jora highlighted the main purpose for organizing the rally and said that common masses particularly the student community get acquainted about the importance of sanitation, cleanliness and greenery in life.
He said that sanitation, cleanliness and greenery are also significant from tourist point of view as thousand tourists are visiting the city to witness the centuries old heritage and cultural ethos. He said that it is very necessary to keep the Srinagar city neat, clean and free from pollution to attract more and more tourists towards the city.
Mr. Aslam Wani said that such kind of events are very necessary for spreading awareness among the common masses about the benefits and importance of cleanliness and greenery for the better environ of the city. He emphasizes for organising more and more such programmes in the future which play key role in spreading the awareness among masses.
The walk was attended by thousands of school children, civil society members, senior citizen and women folk.
