JAMMU : Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Sunday inaugurated Rs. 89.05 crores 4-lane 4th Bridge downstream of the existing bridge over River Tawi here. Its left and right approaches involve Rs. 32.25 crore and Rs. 25 crore respectively. The formation width of the bridge is 21.06 metres, its carriage way is 2x7.50 metres, centre verge 1.20 metres, footpath 2x2 metres, crash barrier between carriage way and footpath 2x0.50 metres and RCC railing 2x0.20 metres.
The 2nd Phase of the project envisages construction of road from Bhagwati Nagar to TV Tower Akhnoor road of the length of 12 kilometres at an estimated cost of Rs. 102 crores. 4th bridge over River Tawi will provide greater relief to traffic plying from Tallab Tillo, Bakshi Nagar and other areas along Akhnoor road one side and Gandhi Nagar, Satwari, Jewel Chowk, Dogra Chowk, Canal road and most of the adjacent areas on the other side. Expressing the hope that the 4th bridge on River Tawi would prove to be a great relief to the commuters, especially heavy vehicle operators to bye-pass Jammu interior while travelling towards Akhnoor, Omar Abdullah said that plying of traffic and decongestion will be greatly addressed by this bridge.
Omar Abdullah also laid foundation of Bikram Chowk Flyover and construction of road corridor to Satwari here. The project is likely to cost over Rs. 84.8 crores and is targeted to be completed within 36 months. The main features of the project is construction of 1.3 kilometre 4-lane flyover of 17 metres width, construction of 1.5 kilometres long 8-lane road, two number pedestrian sub-ways opposite Kala Kendra and Women Degree College, Gandhi Nagar, re-construction of overhead foot bridge, construction of 4-bus-bays near Polytechnic College, Kala Kendra, Paramjeet Filling Station and Government College for Women, two metre wide footpath on either side of the road and street lighting. The flyover will be constructed on 53 piers. The Chief Minister said that de-congestion of city roads in Srinagar and Jammu cities is receiving priority attention of his government. He said besides many schemes under implementation in this regard construction of flyovers at Jammu and Srinagar will be significantly important to provide additional road corridors and ease movement of traffic. The Chief Minister said that rehabilitation of shopkeepers and others to be affected by the construction of Srinagar and Jammu flyovers is being attended holistically and he has directed the concerned agencies to ensure proper rehabilitation of all those who are affected by the project.
Various Ministers including Minister for R&B, Abdul Majid Wani, Minister for PHE, Sham Lal Sharma, Minister for Housing, Raman Bhalla, Minister for Planning and Development, Ajay Sadhotra, Minister of State for Health, Shabir Ahmad Khan, Minister of State for Home, Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo, Provincial President National Conference Jammu and Legislator, Davender Singh Rana and various other Legislators, senior government officers were present on the occasion. |
