| Reasi declared as smoke free district | | | Early Times Report
REASI, May 31: On the eve of World No Tobacco Day Reasi district was declared as 'Smoke Free' by DDC Reasi Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary. Reasi district became the 3rd district of the state to be declared as smoke free. The declaration was made on the basis of survey on compliance of section 4 of Tobacco Control Act Of India. The survey was conducted by AD District Statistics & Evaluation Department in association with Voluntary Health Association of India (VHAI). It was found that more than 90 percent of the public places complied with the smoke free rules. DDC Reasi said cent percent compliance is expected in the coming days. A rally was organised to celebrate World No Tobacco Day to aware public about ill effects of tobacco. Later, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of DDC Reasi in which Md. Altaf District Coordinator briefed about objectives and outcomes of compliance. The project Manager Utpal Das, VHAI welcomed the declaration and appreciated the efforts of district administration in making the district smoke free. DDC asked CEO to make schools tobacco free and asked DPO Reasi to include tobacco control agenda in their ongoing programmes. He said in order to ensure cent percent compliance a review meeting will be held every month regarding tobacco control. DDC also complimented the role of VHAI and also assured that hotels of Katra will be made Smoke Free. The meeting was attended by Assistant Controller Food, Reasi, Madan Lal Magotra, CPO Reasi, Janak Raj, Assistant Director DSEO Reasi, Chaman Lal, CEO, Reasi Tarsem Lal and other district officers. |
