| Rather reviews achievements of Excise Deptt | | Rs 102.16 cr increase in revenue realization | |

JAMMU, May 31 : Excise department has realized revenue of Rs. 915.70 crore during the year 2012-13 which is Rs. 102.16 crore more than that earned in the corresponding period of the previous year registering a growth of 12.56 percent. This was informed during a meeting chaired by Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs, Mr Abdul Rahim Rather held here today to review the performance of Excise Department. Excise Commissioner, Ms Vineeta Gupta, Deputy Excise Commissioners and senior officers of the department were present in the meeting. The Minister took a detailed review of the revenue realization for the current financial year and was apprised that this is the second consecutive year where Excise Department has garnered more than Rs.100 core additionally in a financial year. The Excise Commissioner gave a detailed review of the activities of the department informing the chair that in the enforcement activities undertaken by the department 200 persons were arrested in 3344 raids and 55226 kgs of Lahan was destroyed, 107 working stills were destroyed, 4000 bottles of intoxicating drugs were seized, 6470 pcs of willow clefts were seized, 4958 kanals of Bhang were destroyed during this period recovering a penalty of Rs.35.68 lakh from the offenders which is the highest till date. The Minister complemented the officers of the Excise Department for notable increase in revenue during the last two years exhorted upon the officers to work with zeal, vigor and honesty to surpass all the past achievements in the coming financial year. Mr Rather emphasized on further enhancing the enforcement activities, adding that the officers should conduct regular raids in their respective areas of jurisdiction for the purpose and make all out efforts to eradicate menace of illicit liquor, bootlegging and illegal cultivation of Narcotic plants like Bhang and Poppy. |
