| Int agencies told to upgrade surveillance on Jammu-Punjab border | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 6: Following reports that Pakistani agencies were trying to revive militancy in Punjab security and intelligence agencies operating in Jammu and Kashmir have been asked to tone up their surveillance mechanism against any attempt by agencies across the Line of Control (LoC) at aiding boys in Kathua, R.S Pora, Bishna, Samba and adjoining areas for reviving militancy. Union Home Minister S K Shinde too has voiced concern over Pakistan attempts at reviving militancy in Punjab. Official sources said that once militancy was revived in Punjab it has its impact in all those areas in Jammu that touch the Punjab border as had been witnessed in late 70's and early 80's. They said number of Sikh boys belonging to Jammu sector who were active during militancy in Punjab continue to live in Pakistan. They are reluctant to return to Jammu because they would be arrested as number of cases had been filed against them. It is in this context that security and intelligence agencies have been asked to upgrade their penetration activities so that all the sensitive areas in the Jammu-Punjab border belt were kept under round the clock surveillance. Security forces have been suggested to find out if more posts were needed to be established in the sensitive areas and those manning the intelligence agencies have been asked to improve their field sources. They said that once militancy was revived in Punjab peace would get destabilised in the Jammu region too. Shinde on Wednesday warned of attempts by Pakistan's ISI to revive militancy in Punjab and other parts of the country. This is the second time in nine months that the Centre has cautioned against revival of terrorism in Punjab.
