| Safety of citizens’ first priority-DDC Kulgam reviews traffic regulation in Kulgam | | | Early Times report
KULGAM, June 6: Safety of citizens is the first priority and deviation from traffic rules shall not be tolerated at any cost. This was stated by District Development Commissioner, Kulgam, Mir Jehangir Ahmed while chairing a grievance redressal meeting of Traders Federation Kulgam, Tipper Drivers and Owners Association and Transport Owners Association at his chambers at Kulgam. The representatives of the different Associations put forth their demands regarding the creation of additional parking slots, expansion of bus stands, implementation of 50 percent fare concession for students, designation of bus stops in the township besides banning of heavy vehicular traffic movement through city during peak hours. District Development Commissioner informed the quorum of citizens that the town plan for the city has already been approved and shall be implemented in the near future. He assured the citizens that two additional parking slots are being created and outsourced within a week’s time and requested the unemployed educated youth of the district to participate in these tenders so that employment can be provided to them. District Development Commissioner also revealed that designation of bus stops shall be conducted along with ARTO Kulgam, representatives of the Traders and Transport Owners. He said that no vehicle shall be allowed to park except in these bus stops so that free of traffic is ensued round the clock. He also instructed the concerned authorities to allow the tipper movement through the city only during the time slots in which there is less movement of people especially the students of college and schools. He also directed the ARTO to seize the registration papers of all those vehicles which violate any of these directions. District Development Commissioner also directed the Executive Officer of Municipal Committee, Kulgam to make all the toilets functional in order to curb any inconvenience to the public in and around the township. Meanwhile, a Delhi based NGO WEMTEP in collaboration with other five departments including PHE, RDD, Health, Education and ICDS submitted a report regarding 487 testing samples of tap water, spring water and hand pumps collected from across the district. This effort was coordinated in a systematic manner under the guidance of District Development Commissioner. Jehangir Mir appreciated all the members of the NGO for the job they did which shall become a road map for planning a better water management and conservation scheme for the district. Besides others, ARTO Kulgam, SP Kulgam and members of WEMTEP were also present in the meeting. |
