| Pak resorts to unprovoked firing; JCO killed | | | Rajouri, June 7 : In an unprovoked firing from across the border a Naib Subedar was killed at a forward post in Sojian area in Poonch district. The JCO has been identified as Bachan Singh resident of Pouri Gharwal in Uttraanchal and was attatched with 40 RR based at Mandi. Whether Pakistan army opened fire to facilitate an intrusion bid, or militants opened fire on the forward post, is a matter of detailed investigation. Sources in Army said that at about 11.30 am some Indian forward posts were targeted by the Pakistani troops allegedly using Pika , RPG guns and under barrel grenade launchers. The unprovoked and unexpected firing was immediately retaliated by the alert Indian troops. However, subedar Bachann Singh of Garhwal unit attached with 40RR , who was manning the border at Lonawala forward post and received bullets injuries in the initial firing later succumbs to injuries. For the last few weeks ,after the high temperature resulting in snow melting in some portions on LoC in Kashmir valley and in Sabjian area in Poonch district, Pakistan army continuously trying to give coverage firing to the intruders. On June,2 in a major success army had killed three terrorists in Naugan sector in Kashmir valley who were provided coverage firing by the Pakistan army which targeted the Indian forward post to divert the attention of the soldiers. In Sabjian area of Mandi sector in Poonch district, sources in defence said, that at about11.30 am Pakistan army from across through thick forest targeted our forward posts with RPG and Pika guns and they also used light machine guns and under barrel grenade launchers. " At about 1 pm firing from across the border came through dense forest and they used RPG, Pika and UBGL guns. JCO was injured in the firing and later succumbed to his injuries. Area has been cordoned , search is on " said SN AchyryaPRO defence. Recently during his visit to Kalakot , LT Gen DS Hooda, GOC 16 Crops had said that more than 200 trained militants waiting in the camps near LoC facing Rajouri-Poonch frontier districts and likely to be pushed in Indian territory in summer months. He had recently visited Rajouri and reviwed the security situation with senior officers in Division HQ. |
