Bombs in Iraq kill 7
6/17/2013 9:54:00 PM
Baghdad: Iraqi officials say a bombing north of Baghdad has killed at least seven people and wounded several others.
Police say Monday's bomb exploded in a restaurant in the town of Taji, about 20 kilometers north of the capital.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Monday's bombing comes a day after car bombs across southern Iraq, and a shooting in the country's north killed at least 30 people and wounded dozens more.
The blasts Sunday targeted mainly Shi'ite areas, including Basra, Nasiriya, Mahmoudiya, Hillah, Kut and the Shi'ite holy city of Najaf. In the northern city of Mosul, authorities said gunmen killed at least four police officers during an attack on a checkpoint.
Officials have blamed the recent surge in violence on Sunni Islamist insurgents and al-Qaida's wing in Iraq, raising concern of a return to widespread sectarian violence.
