| Over 500 BJP activists courted arrest demanding PM's resignation | | | Jammu, June 17 : Over 500 BJP activists were court arrested this afternoon after they resorted to block of road and disrupt movement of vehicular traffic at Dogra CHowk as a part of the Party's nationwide agitation demanding resignation of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh for the involvement of UPA in various scams and scandals. The demonstration at Dogra Chowk was led by BJP state President Jugal Kishore Sharma and hundreds of Party activists drawn from different parts of Jammu participated in it. The protesting BJP activists shouting slogans against the scam tainted UPA also jostled with the police in their bid to march towards flyover and block the road. The BJP legislative party leader Ashok Khajuria also sat on the road creating impediment in the movement of vehicular traffic. Later they were packed in six buses and taken to district Police Lines. The prominent BJP leaders arrested included Jugal Kishore Sharma, Ashok Khajuria, Dr Jitendra Singh, Bali Bhagat, Ch. Sha-yam, Sukhnandan Kumar, Shamsher Singh Manhas and activists of Mahila Morcha. Earlier addressing a demonstration at Dogra Chowk BJP leaders said Dr Manmohan Singh has no moral right to stay in office in view of his Government's involvement in various scams. They said the UPA has betrayed the people and the masses have lost their trust in them in view of surfacing of new scandals every day in which the UPA top brass including senior ministers are involved. They said if Dr Manmohan Singh has any respect for the people of this country he should step down on moral grounds. This government except corruption scams, price rise and lawlessness gave nothing to country and people curse the day when UPA came to power for second term at the centre. The BJP leaders also made a dig at state coalition Govt headed by Omar Abdullah saying Congress is providing free hand to establishment of pro-separatist agenda of NC which inimical to national interests. They said rehabilitation of surrendered militants without giving proper thought to the issue or taking the patriotic people of state into confidence will prove suicidal and BJP will oppose it tooth and nail. The Party said BJP was not opposed to rehabilitation of surrendered militants who genuinely want to enter national mainstream but for this a proper mechanism needs to be evolved. |
