SAMBA: The Drug and Food Control Organization in collaboration with New Young Blood Organization and District Red Cross Society Samba organized an awareness programme to commemorate International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking in Samba. A large number of school and college students, Anganwari Workers, Asha workers and Safai karamcharis participated in the camp. The objective of the programme was to sensitize participants about the ill effects of drug abuse. District Development Commissioner, Samba, R.K Varma, who was the chief guest on the occasion, shared his views on menace of drug abuse and illicit trafficking. He directed concerned departments to organize such awareness programme on regular basis. The DDC impressed upon the officers and members of the committee to adopt a multi pronged strategy to deal with menace of drug abuse. He said that the students and the youth who are vulnerable to this menace need to be made aware of the disastrous effects of the drug abuse. Earlier, Assistant Controller Drugs Samba, Renuka Raina presented a brief on the issue of drug abuse and emphasized the role of Asha Workers, Anganwari Workers in eradicating this menace at grass root level. Chief Medical Officer, Dr.Kartar chand, also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the ill effects of habit forming drugs. A symposium was also organized in which the students of Govt. Degree College, Samba and Higher Secondary School, Gurha Slathia Samba, KP Higher Secondary School Samba and Gurukul Institute Samba participated. The prizes were also distributed among the students who participated in the symposium. Among others, CDPO, Babu Ram, besides the Drug Inspectors Rakesh Slathia, Vikas Chander, Chairman, Young Blood Association, Ashok Verma along with Neelam Singh Sambyal and other prominent persons of the area were present on the occasion.
